چکیده

Purposeful motion of biological processes can be driven by Brownian motion of macromolecular complexes with one-sided binding biasing movement in one direction: a Brownian ratchet, now proposed to explain membrane motion during a phagocytosis-like process in bacteria.

Cellular Automata Simulation of a Bistable Reaction-Diffusion System: Microscopic and Macroscopic Approaches

The Cellular Automata method has been used to simulate the pattern formation of the Schlögl model as a bistable Reaction-Diffusion System. Both microscopic and macroscopic Cellular Automata approaches have been considered and two different methods for obtaining the probabilities in the microscopic approach have been mentioned. The results show the tendency of the system towards the more sta...

Hierarchical Evolution of the Bacterial Sporulation Network

Genome sequencing of multiple species makes it possible to understand the main principles behind the evolution of developmental regulatory networks. It is especially interesting to analyze the evolution of well-defined model systems in which conservation patterns can be directly correlated with the functional roles of various network components. Endospore formation (sporulation), extensively st...

Amyloid histology stain for rapid bacterial endospore imaging.

Bacterial endospores are some of the most resilient forms of life known to us, with their persistent survival capability resulting from a complex and effective structural organization. The outer membrane of endospores is surrounded by the densely packed endospore coat and exosporium, containing amyloid or amyloid-like proteins. In fact, it is the impenetrable composition of the endospore coat a...

Initiation of intracellular offspring in Epulopiscium.

Epulopiscium spp. are the largest heterotrophic bacteria yet described. A distinguishing feature of the Epulopiscium group is their viviparous production of multiple, internal offspring as a means of cellular reproduction. Based on their phylogenetic position, among low G + C Gram-positive endospore-forming bacteria, and the remarkable morphological similarity between developing endospores and ...

Structure and Functional Properties of Bacillus subtilis Endospore Biogenesis Factor StoA*S⃞

Bacillus subtilis StoA is an extracytoplasmic thiol-disulfide oxidoreductase (TDOR) important for the synthesis of the endospore peptidoglycan cortex protective layer. Here we demonstrate that StoA is membrane-associated in B. subtilis and report the crystal structure of the soluble protein lacking its membrane anchor. This showed that StoA adopts a thioredoxin-like fold with N-terminal and int...
